Linville Manor: The Property and the Graveyard

My visit to Linville this time included a walk about the property and a visit to the family graveyard. It so happened that there was an open house for the property that was being sold next door; originally the land on this property all belonged to the Bowie family, but had been sold off at one point in time. We decided to go take a walk on the adjacent property to take a look. As I stood in the driveway, I looked over into the fenced in field. "Tom, do you see what I see over there?" I asked. "Native Americans. Men and women. All walking around doing their own thing." "Yes, I see them," Tom acknowledged, "They don't see us." "Isn't that curious? They're just going about their business like nothing in the world is bothering them." Tom wondered aloud if the time portal we previously opened somehow managed to linger over here. It was odd that we could see ghosts of people and not have them sense us as well. Prior to walking on the property, I knew there were at least two ghosts in the house, but since the open house had ended, we weren't able to go inside so I could have a conversation with them. I noticed a woman staring down at us from one of the second story windows. Hopefully the property's next owner will be able to assist her in whatever she needs. We walked by the house and were looking across the grounds when I couldn't help but notice an old silver maple. And by old, I mean old. This tree was hundreds of years old, much like the old beech tree in front of Linville Manor. As I walked around the tree, my neck began to tingle. I often get sensations on the back of my neck and on my scalp when something spiritual is happening. I looked up, and was completely thrown at what I saw. Tom and Winn had been walking around having a conversation and I stopped in my tracks. "Please tell me why I see a man hanging from this tree?" I was looking at a lynching. It was incredibly upsetting. There he was. White shirt and dark pants. A slave. hanging by his neck about 15 feet off the ground. Emily was by my side and instinctively put a hand on my shoulder. Later upon our return to the property, we were having a conversation with Winn's partner about the house. "A hippie lady came by to look at that property. I'm not calling her that - she called herself that. She commented about the lynching tree next to the house." I looked at him and said "Well I hope she's the one that buys the property. You need someone sensitive to the spiritual world to be able to understand what's going on over there." I do appreciate validation in any form, but in this case I could have done without the particular subject.

After we visited the neighboring property, we walked to the back of the property to visit the family graveyard. At this point we were joined by a woman who had come by for the open house and was interested in the history of the property. Winn unlocked the gate to allow us to enter, and spent some time talking with the woman and her sister. Tom, Emily and I entered the graveyard and walked around. No one was there but us, at least for a little while. We saw the area of the graveyard that had been fenced off for the "child of the dark night" as it was told to Winn by a family member. Graves there date back to the 1700's. We were remarking about the trees behind the cemetery when I felt someone rush up behind me and stand right against my back. I turned around and exclaimed "You need to back off! You do *not* have permission to enter me." Tom looked at me with a surprise and agreed. He also has the same "no entry, no attachments" policy as me. "John Bowie. What can I do for you?" I asked. John had come through from the spirit world; he had crossed over long ago. He told me about his wife, Sarah, who was still in the house. "She won't leave," he told me. I was relaying this to Emily and Tom as he was talking to me. Tom wondered aloud why he was visiting me here instead of in the house. "It's because of the dark energy that's in the house," Emily said. We told John that we had cleared the dark energy just a little bit ago. With that information, John popped away. "He's going to the house now," said Emily. "He's going to try to convince her to go," Tom said. I knew this to be true. I also knew that I needed to find Sarah when I returned to the house, because I was meant to help her with whatever it was she was dealing with. More about that interaction in this entry. Nothing else happened on the property, so we made our way back to the house. Before entering the house, I stopped to say hello to the old beech tree.
