Linville Manor: The Possession
Whew. I don't even know where to start with this one. I mentioned in another post that Linville's owner approached Emily and me in the kitchen and said Tom had a situation in the basement. His expression was alarming. Not knowing what to expect, I went down into the basement to find Tom standing next to a carpet. He explained that he was aware of several ghosts around him - an old man with mutton chops and salt and pepper hair, an older woman with her hair pulled back in a bun. Sam, the slave from earlier was there as well, but stood back away from the group in deference to the people near Tom. On the floor in front of Tom was a woman lying on the ground, writhing in pain. She had been cursed and had a severe possession. Detecting the possession, Tom had asked for assistance in placing a protective dome over the woman and the thing that possessed her. I could see the dome and the woman underneath - in deep agony over whatever had taken her over. Until this point, I was unaware that ghosts could be possessed. Tom said that they can remain as they were in life as long as they are Earth bound. Someone had done something to cause this woman to be cursed. She lived her life and death in severe distress.
I had no idea what to do. I had never seen anything like what I was witnessing, but she had been brought here to this place and in this time for help, and clearly Tom and I were meant to help her. I sat down on the floor next to the protective bubble and got to work. All I could think was that this woman needed me to channel the Earth's energy into light and love, so that is what I set out to do. As I started to work, Tom said he saw the protective bubble begin to ripple with the energy I was infusing. "Be careful," he said. "You're affecting the bubble. You don't want this thing to come over to you." As my energy began to separate the thing from the woman, I could see the many cords it had lashed into her. I changed my focus from channeling the energy into the woman to severing the cords that bound her possessor to her. It was incredibly hard work. One by one, I burned the cords away from this woman, starting with her head and progressing to her feet. "Be gentle with it," Tom said, "those cords go deep into her soul." As I did so, the thing tried to lash out at Tom. Tom saw it as a giant black insect. All I could see were the cords tethering it to the poor woman. Gingerly separating each cord, I warned Tom that I was working on the last one. As I did so, he prayed for the universe/source/God to isolate the thing that was being detached. He described it shrinking to the size and form of a rather large spider. I counted down my last cord as a warning that when it was detached it needed to be completely isolated. The last cord released and this thing got wrapped into a protective bubble. As it floated up and out of the space, Tom described the scene. Just outside the house was a large tree in spirit. I lit Palo Santo as extra protection for us and Tom said "oh it does *not* like that smell." Yeah, of course. Dark things are chased away from Palo Santo. The spirit tree spoke and said it will take it from here. The bubble floated up toward the high branches of the tree, and then all of a sudden it got sucked into the spirit tree. The woman was free, but she wasn't out of the woods yet. Years of possession had left very little of her essence. The thing that possessed her had drained most of her spirit away. She barely existed in this state. Tom said we should open a portal and ask for divine support to help this woman cross. So we set our intentions on opening a portal.
As the portal opened up, it looked different than anything I had witnessed previously. Portals open with a bright white light, and they've always been opaque. This portal opened with a warm golden light. As it evolved, I could see through the portal to the other side. It was an image of the property from hundreds of years ago. The edges of the portal were rimmed with the same golden light that I saw when it first opened. "Brooke, what does that portal look like to you?" Tom asked. "Unlike anything I've ever seen. Most portals are just white light. This one opened golden and I can see through to the other side. I see rolling hills of grass that are dotted with trees." Tom said he saw the same, and it wasn't anything like he had seen before either. We both realized about the same time that this wasn't an ordinary portal in the sense of it going to the spiritual world. This one was a time portal! The view we were seeing was of the land as it was during the time of our possessed ghost a few hundred years ago. Several women from that time period came through the portal. They were energy workers in their time, and they had been waiting for this event to happen. They came in and recognized our ghost patient. They were her relatives. These women set about restoring this ghost's essence. One woman kneeled by the ghost's head, and the other by her feet. They laid their hands upon her and restored her energy. As they worked, Tom said he could feel the ghost levitate; he felt her feet rising off the ground. He and I both saw as this woman pivoted mid-air from a horizontal to a vertical position. It was absolutely wild. Her essence restored, the women who came through the portal asked if they could take a walk outside to look at the land as it is today. Tom reluctantly agreed and made them promise to come back so we could help this woman cross.
The three women left the basement, and our attention turned to the male ghost who had stood and observed the events as they unfolded. He was clearly uneasy. Something was on his mind. Tom had started to talk to him about what was making him so uncomfortable. He said he had something to confess. As the three women returned to the basement, they thanked us for our assistance. We all provided our welcomes. One of the women turned to Tom and pointed toward Emily, who had been sitting in a chair in the back as the events unfolded. They told Tom that they would have loved to have worked with Emily in their time. They recognized Emily as a fellow energy/light worker. This surprises me not. I knew there were other gifts Emily had that were yet to be revealed. Tom offered to open a portal for this woman to cross, but the women who came through the time portal said they would do so on their side of the portal, in their time. Tom offered the ghost, who he called Ed, to go back in time and cross there. He was extremely hesitant. He said he had something he needed to tell the ghost woman. Tom called through the portal to the women on the other side - the spirit portal had already been opened there. Ed stepped hesitantly through the portal and told the ghost woman that his actions were the ones that caused the woman to be cursed. He did something in his life, not knowing the full ramifications of his actions, and he was deeply remorseful that he had caused so much pain. I got a sense that Ed was terrified of going to hell as a result of his actions. He was a deeply religious man and refused to cross in fear of eternal damnation.
Upon hearing this, our woman ghost sank to her knees. Her emotions raw and emanating through the portal into our time. She had been pregnant when she got possessed. Her possession caused her to lose her child. Her grief at learning about the person who caused her possession turned quickly into anger. The revelation of the consequences of her possession were astounding, especially since Tom then saw an angel come through the spirit portal on the other side of the time portal carrying the light of a child. The angel handed the woman her baby; her grief again became the dominant emotion. It was about this time that the ghost woman's emotions took over my body. This happens frequently when I witness such events. I began sobbing uncontrollably. Tom would tell me after the fact that my sobbing was providing a sound track to what he was witnessing with the woman. I felt everything she did. As Tom spoke in soft tones to her about the necessity of forgiveness, my crying began to subside as she started to release her anger. Reunited with her child, she realized she needed to let go of these emotions in order to cross into the spirit world once again as a whole soul. She ultimately forgave Ed, and crossed over into the spirit world on the other side of the time portal. The women on the other side of the portal said their goodbyes and thanked all of us once again for our help. Ed elected to stay on our side of the time portal. He was still wrangling with his guilt.
Later, Winn went on to tell us the story of the baby in the dark of the night - a few hundred years ago, a stranger appeared at the door of Linville Manor with a baby. It had been a dark and stormy night, and this stranger appeared out of nowhere. The mother had been ill and passed away. The family took the baby in, and the stranger disappeared. The baby was sick and feverish. The family did what they could to help the child, but a few days later it succumbed to its illness and passed away. There is a section in the family graveyard that had no markers. A member of the living family told Winn that that portion was dedicated to the "children of the dark night" in honor of the child that appeared from nowhere and had no name. Somehow we all knew the woman we helped that day was that mother, and the child that was placed in her arms was the same child that appeared on the doorstep of the Manor all those years ago.
I've said repeatedly that the universe works in mysterious ways. Things always seem to work out exactly how they are supposed to. Tom and I were there that day, and Sam knew that. He knew that somehow we were meant to help this woman heal and find her way home, so he brought her to us. Sam and Ed would also cross over to the spirit world in that same basement the same visit, but that's a subject for another post.
